A comfortable environment in a school building enhances learning and well-being. A good building envelope supports the two main goals, a comfortable indoor environment and energy saving. On a superior level these measures coincidence with the goals of a sustainable society.
Let our children start living and learning in a sustainable environment with the appropriate buildings.
To achieve these goals, concrete constructional measures are needed. One crucial part is the right building envelope which can provide the following benefits:
- sufficient fresh air supply by integrated ventilation systems to secure a good indoor air quality
- comfortable room air and wall surface temperatures over the whole year (winter and summer)
- reduction of energy demand
- sun and glare protection
Well planned façade and roof modules for the renewal of existing school buildings shorten the time needed for renovation on site. The available unoccupied times of school buildings, e.g. holidays, can better be used for renovation and therewith produce less disturbance of the regular school operation.
The renovation strategies consist of two approaches. These are the TOP DOWN and the BOTTOM UP principle. The TOP DOWN approach mainly addresses the owners, authorities, teachers, pupils, parents and general public; whereas the BOTTOM UP approach is more addressed to technical professionals, planers and industry.
