Solutions for protection from overheating and glare
School buildings should be renovated to a high thermal-energetic standard as it is the most important aim in schoolventcool. Such renovation strategies lower the heating effort and raise the comfort inside the classrooms during winter season. But as important as highly insulated and energetically winter-optimized school buildings are “intelligent cool” school buildings during summer season, both to get a healthy environment for the pupils.
The reasons for overheating during summer season - some experts say that it starts in March regarding school and office buildings – are internal heat gains like:
· More artificial lighting during the day because of better control and regulations of light conditions for pupils
· Around 25 pupils per classroom
· Most of them equipped with computers
· Maybe some additional devices like projectors, copier etc.
These gains require different measures to avoid overheating while using daylight in classrooms. Solutions like “intelligent” blinds (shading AND daylight use), simple ventilation and control systems will be described in the end of schoolventcool.
